Electrocardiography
A critical tool in the diagnosis and management of cardiac issues.
Just like people, pets are sometimes born with or develop heart disease. Effective treatment begins with early detection. Electrocardiology, also known as ECG, is a non-invasive, painless “ultrasound of the heart” and is the best tool to analyze your pet’s cardiac health.
An electrocardiography device detects minute electrical changes on the surface of your pet’s skin caused by heartbeat movement. Small electrodes called leads are covered in conducting gel and gently placed on the skin. The leads monitor heartbeat activity, recording irregularities if they are present. In addition to abnormalities, an ECG may also help to identify enlargement of the heart, a common finding with many heart diseases.
